Where to watch the sun go down

The viewpoints the locals go back to. Not the ones on the guidebooks — the ones above Bingin, the warung with the cold beer, the cliff where nobody talks.

Sunset warung in Uluwatu

There are five sunsets in Uluwatu, and not all of them require a reservation. The first is the obvious one — Single Fin, on a Sunday, with everyone you know. The other four are quieter.

Above Bingin there's a stack of warungs cut into the cliff. Skip the first three and walk to the one painted dark green. Order a Bintang and a plate of grilled corn. The owner will bring extra sambal without asking.

If you want to be alone, drive five minutes south and park beside the small temple at the end of the road. The path down isn't marked. The cliff at the bottom is. You'll know.
